The building was 1930s Art Moderne. The apartment had taken a bad turn in the 1980s. We went back to the common areas for a material vocabulary that already belonged here, then brought it into the rooms. Dark finishes and ribbed glass gave the interior some of its life back. The building had been offering useful advice all along.
