The builder had followed a familiar Chicago memo: an expensive collection of rooms, some with no obvious purpose and too few that were particularly pleasant. Our job was to bring in some fun. One of our early projects, it did not need to be earth-shattering. It needed to make the house feel better. It still looks pretty cool.
